Mike’s interest in haiku and other Japanese
forms of poetry (tanka, renga, senryu, haibun etc.) coincided
with his move to the UK in 2002. His interest in this area
encompasses both Japanese and Chinese poetry, including such
names as Basho, Po Chü-i, Ruan Ji, Kodojin and Shiki.
Mike has spoken on the topic of ‘Haiku and Twentieth
Century Lyrics’, written on ‘Aldous Huxley, Haiku
and Zen’, given workshops on ‘found haiku’
and reviewed new haiku collections.
A Foot in the World is a collection
of 150 haiku, written between 2002 – present.

Appear amongst the morning flowers
But I would love to see the sun rise
From other than
The silhouette of war
